The Azalea Effect – Give Your Guests Get A Warm Welcome Every Night

I love springtime in Augusta. The explosion of leaves, animals and flowers is a sight to behold. Next month, the world will turn its gaze upon our fair city, as people from all over the globe travel here to attend our famous golf tournament. When the world looks at Augusta it sees images of perfectly groomed grass, elegantly trimmed trees, and beautiful azaleas in bloom each and every year. All of this combines to create what I call the ‘azalea effect’ –  when people see Augusta, they see something that is beautiful and elegant, yet subtle and understated. In Augusta, people see something that just looks right.

A New Years Update – Thanks & Blessings from our Family to Yours

Only a few more days until we enter the New Year of 2015! I hope you all have been enjoying the holiday season and were able to sit back and enjoy some quality time with your friends and family members. Other than celebrating the birth of my Savior, spending time with family and friends is my favorite part of the holiday season.

'Nana' with Hannah and Logan in Michigan

In this spirit, I thought it would be nice to post a New Years update from the Otis clan. As many of you know, all of our children have worked for Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, and some continue to play a part in the family business. Many of you also kindly ask how are children are doing, so here is a quick update…

Marc, Megan, Hannah and Logan

Our oldest son, Marc, recently accepted a job in Michigan State University’s Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement. As they prepare to move to East Lansing his wife, Megan, will look for part time teaching positions and Marc will continue to whittle away at his PhD. Our granddaughter, Hannah, is learning to read and will be starting Kindergarten in the fall! Our grandson, Logan, is also growing up quickly, and has learned to walk quite well since we saw him last.  He is bonding well with their new Chocolate Lab puppy, Moose. While they were unable to come home for Christmas, we are excited to go visit them in a few short days.

Justin is also doing well. After years of traveling around the country to for work, he has accepted a new position as a corrosion engineer for Atlanta Gas & Light in Atlanta, GA. He is enjoying learning the science behind the oil and gas industry. It is a growing industry and we are happy for him. We are also grateful that he has a job closer to home.

Kristin, Brendon & Foster

Kristin is over halfway through her PhD program at University of South Carolina. She continues to be passionate about school psychology and is thriving in her studies, equally enjoying both seeing clients and teaching undergraduate classes.  She and her long-time boyfriend, Brendon, are doing a great job raising their beautiful Golden Retriever, Foster

Justin & Jonathan in Paris

While continuing school, Jonathan has narrowed his focus to the field of perfusion. He enjoys the medical field, working with machines and is at his best under pressure. This field seems like a perfect fit for him. This past year, he earned his EMT certification, is taking additional sciences and shadowing several doctors at GRU. He plans to apply to MUSC’s Cardiac Perfusionist program in the coming fall and we know he will do great, helping lots of people through his work.

IMG_1015

Karen is also doing well and staying busy. With family spread out over Columbia, Augusta, and Michigan, she stays on the move. This past year, we are sad to report that we lost our faithful Golden Retriever, Toby.  When Justin moved to ATL he picked up his dog, Romo, and we found ourselves without a dog for the first time in many years. So, we decided to fix that…twice over.  Karen’s birthday present was two new little Golden Retriever puppies – Daisy and Cash. They are sweet (and precocious) little puppies and they keep us plenty busy these days.

Our company had a record-breaking year in 2014, and after sixteen years, I still love what I do. I truly consider it a calling to bring greater beauty, safety, and value by lighting up homes and businesses in Augusta, Aiken, Lake Oconee, & Athens. Last year, I also continued working as a volunteer firefighter in Columbia County, even earning my EMT certification. I am also gradually  getting advanced paramedic training, so that I can keep serving as a first-responder for my church and community.

augusta22Although life is far from perfect, the holiday season reminds me how much the Lord has blessed us, and how much we don’t deserve his kindness to us. I am grateful for this time of year, which points me back to the priceless grace that he offers to all through his Son, Jesus.

As this year comes to close, I look back and give thanks for you, our customers. Despite an ever-expanding client list, you all still feel like family to us. If we can do anything to help you, please do not hesitate to call us at  (706) 722-5711 in Augusta/Aiken or (706) 484-9711 in Lake Oconee/Athens. I look forward to serving all of your outdoor lighting needs in 2015, and for many years to come.

May your New Year be filled with many thanks and blessings as well,

Pat Otis

Reaching Hands Adoption Celebration & Benefit Auction

Reaching Hands PicEvery so often, I dedicate some time to do a “passion post”, where I write about a community issue (or organization) that I believe in and care deeply about. This is one of those blogs.

As you all know, the holidays are right around the corner. While the holidays remind me of all that I have to be thankful for, they also remind me that not everyone enjoys the same kind of blessings that I have. Sadly, many people spend the holidays without a family to celebrate with. I think it is tragic that some loving couples are unable to experience the blessing of children while some children do not have the blessing of being part of a loving family. I also believe that adoption offers a beautiful solution to this heartbreaking problem.

Reaching Hands Adoption Ministry

However, the process and cost of adoption can be intimidating to many families who are interested in adopting a child. This is why we support a local adoption ministry called “Reaching Hands”. Reaching Hands is a local grassroots ministry that seeks to be a full service adoption resource for the CSRA community. They help answer questions about adoption, connect families with quality adoption resources, and even provide financial assistance to qualified families. Over the past five years, Reaching Hands has provided needed assistance through ‘adoption grants’ for 32 families and 51 children from 9 countries!

This important ministry is growing rapidly and we present them to you as a model organization that is making a major impact on our CSRA community. If you are looking for a place to send a charitable donation, or simply have questions about the adoption process/ministry, please check out the Reaching Hands website, this great feature article from Augusta Chronicle, or contact David Bullington at (706) 399-1330.

Better still, you can come to the Reaching Hands Adoption Celebration and Benefit Auction on Thursday, November 6th from 6:00-9:00pm at Warren Baptist Church. We are honored to donate some of our lights for the auction, and look forward o eating some of the delicious appetizers and desserts that will be provided by several wonderful area restaurants. Tickets are only $10.

Can’t make it on Thursday night? No problem! You can still contribute. This year, the silent auction will begin online before the night of the event.  Please join with us in supporting this important ministry.

3 Reasons We Are the CSRA’s Premier Event Lighting Company

Quick riddle for you: what do the Academy Awards, the Royal Wedding, and Augusta’s Sacred Heart Garden Tour all have in common? Answer: Great Event Lighting.

Whether it be Backyard Parties, Elaborate Weddings, Office Celebrations, or Community Fundraisers, Quality Lighting Makes a Good Event Great

Although we are best known for installing permanent residential and commercial lighting systems, did you know that we also offer temporary lighting systems for special events? For many years, we have quietly been making a name for ourselves as the CSRA’s premier event lighting company. It has been our honor to light a wide variety of important events for our customers: from backyard parties to elaborate weddings, office celebrations to community fundraisers, we shine at special events where good lighting is a must.

So, why should you call us for your next special event?  Here are the top 3 reasons…

Our Lights…

1. Set the Right Mood for Your Special Event

Special event lighting aiken athen lake oconee backyard party

Romantic, Elegant, Exciting, or Anything in-between, Let Us Create the Perfect Mood for your Special Event

We’ve all heard the term “mood lighting” used many times before. The term’s popularity is evidence of the power of light to shape our mood and experience of an event. Consider some of the most memorable events you have experienced. Whether it be a  romantic dinner with your partner, a performance piece that touched you deeply, or a particularly beautiful wedding, chances are, by intentional design (or blind luck), lighting played an important part in making that event so meaningful and memorable for you. Truly, good mood lighting has the power to make a good event great. Whether you are aiming for romantic, intimate, exciting, or anything in between, we have the practical experience, technical skill, and artistic sensibilities needed to help you create the perfect mood for your next special event.

 2. Make Your Event Planning Easier

Make event planning easier with Outdoor Lighting in augusta and aiken

Let Us Help you Take Care of Some Crucial Aesthetic and Practical Details to Ensure that your Special Event is Beautiful, Seamless, and Low Stress.

Let’s be honest – planning special events can present a quite a challenge. Consider all the details an event planner has to keep track of: does the caterer have all the equipment they need? Is the florist on time and on track? Which guests still need directions? Every event requires planners to juggle a lot of details, but the best events create a mood (and a host) that is calm, complimentary, and engaging. When you choose us, we help you by taking care of some of the most crucial aesthetic and practical details to ensure that your special event is beautiful, seamless, and most importantly, low stress. We will quietly set up our lights at a convenient time before your event, test/program them on site, and quickly take them down at a time that works best for you. With us, you get to rest a bit easier, trusting that there will be no hassle, no fuss, and no problems with our lights. We know that you’ve got enough to worry about, so let us help you enjoy the event you have worked so hard on.

3. Provide Lighting of Some of CSRA’s Most Prestigious Events

garden festival page marker editWe have worked hard to become the official event lighting company for some of the most discerning clients and prestigious events in the CSRA. We are proud to provide the lighting  for the Sacred Heart Garden Tour, Swamp Soiree, Blue Jean Ball, Historic Augusta’s Cotton Ball and Woodrow Wilson boyhood home, and many other stalwart community events. These events all have a well-deserved reputation, and we our happy to lend our lights to compliment and enhance the popularity and success of these must-attend events.

When you choose Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, we offer you a free consultation to learn about your event, and to design a lighting package that will best compliment the goals and mood of your special event. Once we know your goals, we will design custom event lighting package for your event and offer you a competitive quote while you wait. If you would like to learn how our lights can help create the perfect mood for your next special event, give us a call at  (706) 722-5711 in Augusta / Aiken or (706) 484-9711 in Lake Oconee / Athens.

Our Reliable Service Ensures that Your Lights Continue Look Great Year After Year

For Over 15 Years, Our Reliable Service has Ensured that Your Lights Continue to Work Right Each Night, Helping Your Home Look its Very Best

Lately, I have been thinking about the phrase – “here today, gone tomorrow.” This popular cliche describes many fleeting things in our world – pop music stars, internet memes, start-up businesses, and so on. It does not, however, describe our company.

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee we promise to be here today and here tomorrow as well. For 15 years, we have stood behind that promise and made it our aim to be here for you, faithfully serving the CSRA since 1999.

We promise to be here or you…

LED Outdoor Lights in Augusta

The Popularity & Longevity of our Company Comes From Quick Response Times, Reliable Service and a Dependable Warranty. All these Keep your Lights Lights Looking Good & Working Right When you Need Them.

Next Week – Next week is Masters Week, and although many of our customers head out of town, we are staying in town to be available for whatever you might need. If you or your guests have any issues with your lighting system during Masters Week, call us and we will be there right away to make your lights look and work right again.

If Something Goes Wrong During Masters Week, We are Here for You. Call us and We will Make it Right, Right Away

Fear Not – If Something Goes Wrong with your Lights During Masters Week, We are Here for You.
Call us and We will Make it Right, Right Away

Next Year – Every spring our schedule is filled with new installations for new customers, annual maintenance plans for our existing customers, and even non-OLP lighting system repairs for our competitors’ customers.  This last category constitutes a growing part of our business every year. Outdoor lighting is a significant investment (that can pay beautiful dividends), yet many people don’t think about servicing their system in the years to come. But, this is the biggest problem with ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ lighting companies – unreliable service. A landscaper or amateur lighting guy may offer a lower installation price, but consider the long-term costs of unreliable service. Outdoor lighting is all we do and we will aim to do it right. When you use us, you can rest easy knowing that your lights will be shining every night, year after year.

We Guarantee that your Guests will Enjoy a 'Deep Breath' Outdoor Atmosphere During Masters Week

We Guarantee that your Guests will Enjoy a ‘Deep Breath’ Outdoor Atmosphere During Masters Week

Next Decade – We have been serving the CSRA for over 15 years, significantly longer than anyone else in our area. This highlights what many consider to be our strongest selling point – our warranty. Put simply, we have the best warranty in the biz. Anyone can sell you a warranty, but will they be around to honor it if something goes wrong? We have been standing behind our warranties for over 15 years, our national franchise has been doing so for over 21 years. This means that when you buy one of our lighting systems, you know that you are getting a guarantee that is worth something. We will be here for you when you need us. That peace of mind is priceless.

As our outdoor lighting competitors come and go in the CSRA, we remain. Longevity is one of the ‘intangible benefits’ that you get with our company, but you can easily appreciate tangible benefits that come with our lights – quick response time, reliable service and a dependable warranty. Bottom line,  you can trust that we are here for you today, and we will be here for you tomorrow, faithfully serving all your outdoor lighting needs.

To LED or Not To LED? That is the Question…

LED copper path light - energy efficient and beautiful

A great example of the natural beauty of LED lights

Hello all – I recently saw an article on Fox News that caught my attention. It is entitled: “LEDs turn out the light on incandescents and CFLs“. This is a great (and non-biased) article that highlights the benefits of LED lights above incandescent lights. I highly recommend reading this article and considering the pro-LED argument it makes.

My experiences with skeptical customers have taught me that some people are skittish about LED bulbs, assuming that all LEDs give off a harsh, artificial, or blueish light (like car headlights), lending to an unnatural look and feel. I admit that, sadly, some LEDs do look unnatural, but I also know that the vast majority of those lights utilize a cheap low quality LED bulb.

A Riddle - Which Set of Outdoor Lights is Halogen and which is LED?

Can you tell which set of outdoor lights is halogen and which is LED? No?! Exactly my point…

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, we only use LED lights with Cree-chip technology which, as the article above states, is one of the highest quality LED bulbs available on the market today. Need more proof? Look at the pictures in this blog – our LED lights give off the same color temperature and effect that people love from our halogen bulbs. The Cree bulbs we use register very well of the CRI-scale (Color Rendering Index), meaning that all of our lights will deliver a natural glow, giving your house our signature warm, inviting, and elegant look.

BONUS – not only do they look great, but our LEDs maximize your lighting investment by saving you money in 3 primary ways…

ANN-001

LEDs conversion = More lights, more beauty, more security, & more savings! What a deal!

1. Our LED bulbs are more efficient. Our LEDs use 85% less energy than their standard halogen counterparts, which translates into an 85% cavings on your energy bill.  This means that you can run your lights as long as you want without worrying about the cost. Higher efficiency means that you will save some of your hard-earned green while being green and helping the environment.

2. Our LEDs Are Warrantied Twice as Long. We already have the best warranty in business, and using our LEDs only makes our guarantee even better. With LED bulbs, or an LED conversion, we  warranty your bulbs for twice as long as our standard halogen bulbs (2 yrs on all LED bulbs), giving you the peace of mind, and extended enjoyment, that comes standard with the best warranty in the business.

3.  Our LEDs are able to be retrofitted into your existing lighting system. While some lighting companies try to sell your whole new LED-specific fixtures, our bulbs are able to be retrofitted into all of our fixtures. This means you can make an LED conversion without buying a whole new lighting system. This is an great formula: LEDs conversion = More lights, more beauty, more security, & more savings!

Sit Down and Breathe Deep Enjoy Our Deck & Moon Lighting Combo

Want to enjoy your lighting investment more? LEDs allow you to run your lights 2x as long with 85% more savings.

Ok, so how do you get LED bulbs? For the reasons listed above, some of our customers choose to initially install an LED system, while others choose to upgrade to LED bulbs during their Annual Maintenance Plans (AMP).  Since our LEDs use so much less energy than their halogen counterparts, an upgrade pays for itself over time…

So, call us if you would like to learn more about the benefits of an LED conversion for your Annual Maintenance Plan. If you are convinced about the benefits of an LED retrofit, or just have some more questions, you can reach us at (706) 722-5711 in Augusta / Aiken or (706) 484-9711 in Lake Oconee / Athens.  If you would like some more examples of our work, you can also visit our website to look through some of our favorite Augusta outdoor lighting photos.

A Christmas Card from Our Family To Yours

Patrick Otis' Family - Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta / Lake Oconee

Our Whole Family at Easter

Only a few more days until Christmas! I hope you all have finished your holiday shopping and decorating, and are able to sit back and enjoy some quality time with your friends and family members. Other than celebrating the birth of Christ, spending time with family and friends is my favorite part of the Christmas season.

I was reminded of this on Thanksgiving, when our family went to a restaurant with some of our closest friends. While we were there, we saw one of our oldest customers eating at the same restaurant, and when he saw my family, his face lit up with a big smile. He told us how he remembered my daughter as a little girl helping me set up for his nighttime home demonstration. He fondly recalled my young daughter holding up a light for him to see how it would look in a specific area. That night in his yard was a happy memory for him, and that night in the restaurant was a happy moment for me. It reminded me how grateful I am for my family.

In this spirit, I thought it would be nice to post a family-focused “Christmas Card Blog” from Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee. As many of you know, all of our children have worked in the family business, and most have worked here some in the past year. Many of you also kindly ask how are children are doing, so here is a quick update…

Our First Grandson, Logan Marcus

Our oldest son, Marc, moved his family across the country to start a PhD program at Michigan State University last fall. His wife, Megan, is teaching art at a charter school near Ann Arbor, and their daughter, Hannah, is growing up into quite a precious and precocious 3 (and half) year old. They recently gave us our second grandchild, Logan, a handsome little guy (see the pic). We were grateful that we got to see them so much last year, and although they are doing well in Michigan, we are really missing them this holiday season.

Justin is also doing well, and enjoying his job with Southern Cross Pipeline. He loves to travel, and this is a good thing, because he regularly roams the country inspecting underground gas lines everywhere from Californian cities to Louisiana swamps. He is learning a lot about this industry, and is passionate about keeping people safe through this important inspection work.

The Grand-dogs - Toby, Foster, & Romo

The Grand-dogs – Toby, Foster, & Romo

Kristin is loving her second year in her PhD program at University of South Carolina. She is learning a lot about school psychology, making great grades, and is getting a significant amount of experience teaching undergraduate students. She also has an exciting addition to he life, our fourth grandpuppy, Foster. He is a very cute little golden retriever, and she is raising him up to be a great dog.

Jonathan is enjoying his work waiting tables full-time at Taco Sushi. He is a great server, and has a prolific knowledge of all things sushi. He is wisely taking some time off from college this year to figure out what he feels called to do with his life. In this vein, he is excited to start fire and rescue training as a volunteer in the new year. We are very proud of him and can’t wait to see what he settles on, knowing he would be great at so many things.

Karen Otis, Vice President Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta

Karen and her Clone in Michigan

Karen is also doing well and traveling a lot. With family spread out over Columbia, Augusta, and Michigan, she stays on the move. After fifteen years, I am still loving what I do. I consider it my calling to bring greater beauty, safety, and value by lighting up homes and businesses in Augusta, Aiken, Lake Oconee, and Athens. This past fall, I also became a volunteer firefighter in Columbia County. I truly enjoy being a first-responder, and am grateful for the opportunity to work with such great folks at the firehouse and in my business.

Although my life is far from perfect, Christmas reminds me how much the Lord has blessed us, and how much we don’t deserve his kindness to us. I am grateful for this time of year, which points me back to his grace.

I look forward to working with you all more this next year and I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas season,

Increase the Safety of Your Home This Holiday Season

Hello all,  I hope this blog finds you well.

Lake Oconee outdoor lights help your family feel more safe and secure at home at night

Our lights help your family feel more safe and secure at night

I’ve been thinking about a few things that I would like to talk about this week – family, Halloween, and home security.

Family – We are anxiously awaiting the birth of our second grandchild, and our first grandson, Logan, who should be here any day now. Karen and I love our kids and grandkids, and there isn’t anything that we wouldn’t do for them.

Halloween – Young or old, Halloween is such a fun time of year – dressing up, going to a party, getting and giving loads of candy…whats not to like? But, for some, Halloween can be a slightly scary time of year as well. Maybe you get freaked out by masks, ghouls, ghosts, or zombies…maybe the hair on the back of your neck stands up a little when you walk out to your car in the dark. Fear of the unknown, or concern over what might be lurking in the darkness, is a powerful feeling, especially when it involves the safety and security of your family.

Our lights help your family feel more secure each time you come home

Home Security – The picture above captures this feeling so well doesn’t it? For most folks, there isn’t anything they wouldn’t do to make sure that their family feels safe and secure at home.

So, what does all this have to do with this blog? Its simple: daylight savings time will soon be over.  As we ‘fall back’ an hour, our days will become even shorter and evening will come much sooner. You have probably already noticed it getting darker as you come home from work. But, next time you pull up to your dark house take a moment to consider – how does this feel? Also consider – wouldn’t it be nice to come home to a house or yard that makes you feel inspired, welcomed, and safe?

Path lights help your family walk and travel safely at night

Increase you family’s safety by lighting up your walkways and driveways

Professional outdoor landscape and architectural lighting not only makes your home look more beautiful and inviting, it also adds a blanket of security to your home and surroundings. Homes and businesses with strategically placed outdoor lighting often deter potential criminals. Outdoor lighting can make it easier for you and your neighbors to see if someone tries to enter your home, but it can also help you feel more secure when you and your family come home after dark.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee can create a custom lighting design for your home that will increase the beauty, safety and security of your property. Whether you are interested in traditional landscape lighting, or our special holiday lighting options, we know you’ll breathe a little easier, knowing that your home is well lit and your family is safer and secure at night as a result. In fact, we think you’ll agree every time you pull in the driveway.

Why an outdoor lighting month? Our goal is to raise consumer awareness about the important products and services we offer. People spend lots of money on their homes each year, and we believe that outdoor lighting is one of the best investments you can make. Whether it be increasing security, extending living space, or enhancing the beauty of your home or office, these are just a few of the dividends that come from an investment of outdoor lighting. Best of all, an investment  in outdoor lighting keeps paying dividends night after night, month after month, year after year.

Why October? Think about it – October is the ideal time of year to raise consumer awareness about outdoor lighting – the days are getting shorter, evening comes sooner, its still warm enough to enjoy evenings outdoors, festive entertaining opportunities abound, and some people have even started to think about holiday lighting. In these ways and more, October is a month that lets our lights shine.
