Top 3 Costs of Bad Commercial Lighting (and How we Can Help).

NASH-007

What does your place of business look like at night?

Most business owners know that the key to a successful business is reducing costs and increasing profits, while maintaining high-quality standards. Many companies spend mega-bucks to advertise the high-quality of their brand, products, or services. While many business owners strategically think through what their place of business (shop, office, restaurant, etc) says about them as a company, many neglect to consider how their place of business looks at night. No lighting, or worse, bad lighting, has an impact on their way your customers feel and experience your business brand. My thesis is simple – there is a high cost to bad commercial lighting…but we can help you fix that.

The top three high costs of bad commercial lighting (and how we can help).

ROA-008

Great outdoor lighting makes your customers feel safe while enhancing the beauty and appeal of your business property

1. Bad commercial lighting can make your customers feel less safe. This first point is rooted in common sense: when your business property is unlit or poorly lit, your customers feel less safe visiting your place of business at night. Even if your company does not have nighttime hours, evenings come pretty early for half the year (Look outside at 6:00 today and see what I mean). Regardless, it is safe to assume that when your customers feel less safe, they will visit your place of business less. Less customers typically means less sales, which means less revenue.  Many business owners have not considered the high cost that bad lighting can have on their bottom line.

Great commercial lighting not only makes your business look beautiful and appealing, it also helps your customers feel safer. When people feel comfortable, they are more likely to visit, stay longer, and give greater attention to the products and services you are offering. Our lights can help you create that beautiful, inviting, and secure environment you want for your customers and employees.

DNV-006

We can help your signage become an elegant landmark for thousands of people as they travel by every night.

2.  Bad commercial lighting means that your business goes unnoticed. I made this point last week, but I think it bears repeating – next time you are driving home at night, look around and see what gets your attention. Where is your eye drawn? What signs do you see? How many of those signs are familiar to you…how many do you use as landmarks on your travels? I think you get the point – darkness is the great equalizer of commercial real estate as all business are hidden from sight at night…except the ones that make an effort to stand out.

ROA-006

Great commercial outdoor lighting helps your business stand out at night

Great commercial lighting helps your business stand out at night. Because many commercial signs and buildings are not illuminated at night, the illuminated signs really stand out. The evening hours are a great marketing opportunity, and outdoor lighting can be a great marketing tool for your business. Remember, the key to successful advertising is consistency, and great commercial lighting makes your business stand out at night. With the right lighting, your signs and buildings can become a landmark for thousands of potential customers as they travel by every night.

Tim Charrier e0039c

Consider: how does outdoor lighting impact your impression of this building and the business brand it represents?

3. Bad commercial lighting damages your business brand. Successful companies spend lots of money to “curate their brand”, and know that bad press, negative reviews, or subpar products/services can hurt the image they are trying hard to build. What does bad lighting (“hot spots”, “dark patches”, harsh 110v floodlights) say about your business brand? Is this the message your want to send? Cheap lighting that is poorly designed, or lighting that works infrequently, is a problem. Harsh high voltage lighting can communicate a lack of style or elegance. Sloppy lighting can inadvertently send the wrong message about the business brand you have worked hard to build.

ROA-005

Our brand is ‘warm, elegant, and inviting’ and is why OLP is the business of choice for many of the CSRA’s premier commercial properties

On the other hand, great commercial lighting enhances your brand. Our signature style, our ‘brand’, is often described as ‘warm, elegant, and inviting’. This is why Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee is the commercial outdoor lighting company of choice for many of the premier hotels, restaurants, office buildings, medical practices, neighborhoods, golf courses, and stores in/across the CSRA. We have the experience, artistry, skills, and custom products to compliment and enhance the presence of your brand.

Help Your Augusta Business Stand Out With Commercial Outdoor Lighting

chameleon

If you want to survive in the jungle – blend in. In business, you need to stand out to thrive.

I was recently watching a show about rainforest animals. The program made a simple, yet profound point: if you want to survive in the jungle, you need to blend in. Good camouflage is what keeps successful predator’s bellies full, and successful prey out of those same bellies. It’s funny how different the rainforest is from business. In business, the goal is exactly the opposite: if you want to survive in business, you need to stand out. Companies spend tons of marketing money to make sure that they are noticed for their product, their brand, their building, their logo, and so on.

Before-and-after-outdoor-lightingHowever, many businesses, especially small businesses, inadvertently overlook the marketing power of light and the marketing opportunity of night. The most successful business are always thinking smart, and even if they aren’t open at night, smart business owners take the chance to stand out by investing in night-time advertising.

Try this – next time you are driving home at night, look around, see what gets your attention. Where is your eye drawn? What signs do you see? How do you feel about the signs that you see? Because many signs are not illuminated at night, the illuminated signs really stand out. Adding outdoor lighting can be a great marketing tool. Good outdoor lighting helps your business easy to find at night. Now look little closer, how many signs have bad lighting? Do you see “hot spots” and “dark spots” on some signage?  What does that say to you? Cheap lighting that is poorly designed, or that works infrequently is a problem. In fact, sloppy lighting can send the wrong message about the business brand you have worked hard to cultivate.

DNV-006

Good outdoor lighting helps your sign, and your business, stand out at night.

Over the past 17 years, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee has built a solid reputation as a Augusta’s premier commercial lighting company. We have done a lot of commercial lighting across the CSRA. If you would a few examples of the commercial work we do – check out the Evans town center, Georgia Bank and Trust building, McCloud Attorney building, Woodrow Wilson’s boyhood home, and the Sacred Heart Church….just to name a few.

A New Years Update – Thanks & Blessings from our Family to Yours

Only a few more days until we enter the New Year of 2015! I hope you all have been enjoying the holiday season and were able to sit back and enjoy some quality time with your friends and family members. Other than celebrating the birth of my Savior, spending time with family and friends is my favorite part of the holiday season.

'Nana' with Hannah and Logan in Michigan

In this spirit, I thought it would be nice to post a New Years update from the Otis clan. As many of you know, all of our children have worked for Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, and some continue to play a part in the family business. Many of you also kindly ask how are children are doing, so here is a quick update…

Marc, Megan, Hannah and Logan

Our oldest son, Marc, recently accepted a job in Michigan State University’s Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement. As they prepare to move to East Lansing his wife, Megan, will look for part time teaching positions and Marc will continue to whittle away at his PhD. Our granddaughter, Hannah, is learning to read and will be starting Kindergarten in the fall! Our grandson, Logan, is also growing up quickly, and has learned to walk quite well since we saw him last.  He is bonding well with their new Chocolate Lab puppy, Moose. While they were unable to come home for Christmas, we are excited to go visit them in a few short days.

Justin is also doing well. After years of traveling around the country to for work, he has accepted a new position as a corrosion engineer for Atlanta Gas & Light in Atlanta, GA. He is enjoying learning the science behind the oil and gas industry. It is a growing industry and we are happy for him. We are also grateful that he has a job closer to home.

Kristin, Brendon & Foster

Kristin is over halfway through her PhD program at University of South Carolina. She continues to be passionate about school psychology and is thriving in her studies, equally enjoying both seeing clients and teaching undergraduate classes.  She and her long-time boyfriend, Brendon, are doing a great job raising their beautiful Golden Retriever, Foster

Justin & Jonathan in Paris

While continuing school, Jonathan has narrowed his focus to the field of perfusion. He enjoys the medical field, working with machines and is at his best under pressure. This field seems like a perfect fit for him. This past year, he earned his EMT certification, is taking additional sciences and shadowing several doctors at GRU. He plans to apply to MUSC’s Cardiac Perfusionist program in the coming fall and we know he will do great, helping lots of people through his work.

IMG_1015

Karen is also doing well and staying busy. With family spread out over Columbia, Augusta, and Michigan, she stays on the move. This past year, we are sad to report that we lost our faithful Golden Retriever, Toby.  When Justin moved to ATL he picked up his dog, Romo, and we found ourselves without a dog for the first time in many years. So, we decided to fix that…twice over.  Karen’s birthday present was two new little Golden Retriever puppies – Daisy and Cash. They are sweet (and precocious) little puppies and they keep us plenty busy these days.

Our company had a record-breaking year in 2014, and after sixteen years, I still love what I do. I truly consider it a calling to bring greater beauty, safety, and value by lighting up homes and businesses in Augusta, Aiken, Lake Oconee, & Athens. Last year, I also continued working as a volunteer firefighter in Columbia County, even earning my EMT certification. I am also gradually  getting advanced paramedic training, so that I can keep serving as a first-responder for my church and community.

augusta22Although life is far from perfect, the holiday season reminds me how much the Lord has blessed us, and how much we don’t deserve his kindness to us. I am grateful for this time of year, which points me back to the priceless grace that he offers to all through his Son, Jesus.

As this year comes to close, I look back and give thanks for you, our customers. Despite an ever-expanding client list, you all still feel like family to us. If we can do anything to help you, please do not hesitate to call us at  (706) 722-5711 in Augusta/Aiken or (706) 484-9711 in Lake Oconee/Athens. I look forward to serving all of your outdoor lighting needs in 2015, and for many years to come.

May your New Year be filled with many thanks and blessings as well,

Pat Otis

Reaching Hands Adoption Celebration & Benefit Auction

Reaching Hands PicEvery so often, I dedicate some time to do a “passion post”, where I write about a community issue (or organization) that I believe in and care deeply about. This is one of those blogs.

As you all know, the holidays are right around the corner. While the holidays remind me of all that I have to be thankful for, they also remind me that not everyone enjoys the same kind of blessings that I have. Sadly, many people spend the holidays without a family to celebrate with. I think it is tragic that some loving couples are unable to experience the blessing of children while some children do not have the blessing of being part of a loving family. I also believe that adoption offers a beautiful solution to this heartbreaking problem.

Reaching Hands Adoption Ministry

Click Here for More Information on this Important Ministry

However, the process and cost of adoption can be intimidating to many families who are interested in adopting a child. This is why we support a local adoption ministry called “Reaching Hands”. Reaching Hands is a local grassroots ministry that seeks to be a full service adoption resource for the CSRA community. They help answer questions about adoption, connect families with quality adoption resources, and even provide financial assistance to qualified families. Over the past five years, Reaching Hands has provided needed assistance through ‘adoption grants’ for 32 families and 51 children from 9 countries!

This important ministry is growing rapidly and we present them to you as a model organization that is making a major impact on our CSRA community. If you are looking for a place to send a charitable donation, or simply have questions about the adoption process/ministry, please check out the Reaching Hands website, this great feature article from Augusta Chronicle, or contact David Bullington at (706) 399-1330.

Better still, you can come to the Reaching Hands Adoption Celebration and Benefit Auction on Thursday, November 6th from 6:00-9:00pm at Warren Baptist Church. This will is an exciting evening dedicated to celebrating adoptive families and raising funds to support Reaching Hands. We are honored to donate some of our lights for the auction, and look forward o eating some of the delicious appetizers and desserts that will be provided by several wonderful area restaurants. Tickets are only $10.

Can’t make it on Thursday night? No problem! You can still contribute. This year, the silent auction will begin online before the night of the event.  Please join with us in supporting this important ministry.

I am so thankful for our business and for the wonderful customers that we serve. I look forward to continuing to work hard to satisfy all of your outdoor lighting needs. Tree Lighting: Discover & Enjoy the Priceless Treasures in Your Yard

“Trees are your best antiques”  ~ Alexander Smith,19th cen Scottish Poet

It take a lighting professional to bring out the best in each and every tree

Our Lights Will Bring Out the Hidden Beauty of Your Trees at Night

Antiques are valuable because they simultaneously connect us to the past, present, and even the future. Antiques are our dearest heirlooms, and as such, they are meant to be preserved, displayed, and admired. Trees are our best antiques. There is something about a beautiful tree that makes us stop and admire the beauty of the world around us. A majestic towering tree reminds us of those who have gone before us and those who will come after. Trees also provide beauty to our homes, give us shade from the summer heat, and spread a sense of relaxation. Indeed, trees are our best antiques.

Isn’t a shame to only be able to admire trees in daytime? So much of our time at home is spent in the evening hours. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to enjoy our trees when we are at home most? Imagine sitting outside on a fall evening gazing at one of your trees as the sun sets and, at the perfect moment in the settling dusk, a soft light washes over your tree with an elegant glow. Later, as you turn off your bedroom lights, you stand by the window gazing outside and taking in the beauty of your the yard once more before you sleep. When done right, outdoor lighting not only extends your usable outdoor space, it also enhances your home.

Lighting Up Your Augusta Garden

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, we know how to enhance your home at night. Our outdoor lighting design team offers a high level of experience and artistry to help you determine the best type of outdoor lighting for your space. We know the right type of fixtures, the ideal angles, and the best techniques to achieve the most appealing look to compliment your house, outdoor space, and ornamental trees.

Down lighting your garden

Moon lighting mimics the soft glow of the moon

When thinking about tree lighting, there are two very different techniques to consider depending on the result you are trying to achieve. If you want to illuminate an ornamental tree with beautiful branches, such as a willow, oak, or palm tree, the best choice is “canopy-lighting”. With “canopy-lighting” we place a discrete, wide beam ground light in an optimal place to light up the trunk, crown, and canopy in a very elegant way. Another technique that we commonly use is called “moon lighting”. This method mimics the shadowing and light naturally given off by the moon. We carefully mount our custom light fixtures in the ideal places to cast light down through leaves and branches, giving a natural, soothing, and comfortable feel to your outdoor space.

Spend Your Nights Gazing at the Priceless Antiques You Never Knew You Had

Both of these lighting techniques produce amazing, yet unique results. If you love the trees in your yard, and are interested in highlighting their natural wonder, please call us at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta. If you want to know what your trees could look like at night, let us come out and give you a free demonstration. Soon you could be spending your nights gazing at the elegant antiques you never knew you had.

1. Whatever you DesireWhen you look at your backyard, what do you see? Dark areas? ‘Barely there’ lighting fixtures? Untapped potential or wasted space? If you are like most homeowners, you have a good idea what you would like for your home or garden to look like…and we can help you make your desires a reality. Although we have almost 20 years of outdoor lighting experience, we always start by asking our potential clients what they envision their home looking like with the perfect outdoor lighting. Once we have a good idea of what you are hoping for, we aim to exceed your expectations. We have become the largest and oldest outdoor lighting business in Eastern Georgia because we aim to listen to (and impress) our customers and with every job we do.

augusta172. Whatever you Need – Maybe you are not sure how you would like outdoor lights to look in your yard, or maybe you have been too busy working to give it too much thought. Thats okay, as long as you can tell us what you would like for your lights to do, we can walk you through the rest. Do you need to equip your backyard for evening entertaining? Do you need to enhance the safety of your loved ones and security of your property? Do you need to outline your driveway or light up some dark steps? We can help you accomplish any/all of these things, and make it look beautiful too. augusta 49Since our industry-leading lights are made exclusively for our franchise, we can even order custom fixtures to handle any lighting need you can think of. We’ve lit waterfalls, docks, and even a helipad. Point being, no matter how big or small, you tell us what you need from lights, and we will make it work right and look great for a lifetime.
