Top 5 Ways We Can Help Your Garden to Glow This Summer

Its a new summer season, and that means there are new memories to be made, new sights to see, and new parties to throw. It also means a new summer focus for our blogs. Last year we had a lot of fun thinking through how we could help you to light up those “summer nights”, and this year we turn our attention to your yard and garden.

Let’s be honest – you spend a lot of time and money making your lawn and garden great. enjoy your garden at night with quality outdoor lightingSo, why should you spend any more than have to? But, also consider this – why should you just get to enjoy your investment during the daylight hours? Most of us spend most of our time at home during the evening hours, and we think you should be able to enjoy your yard investment whenever you want. Our lights will help you do this.

For the rest of the summer we are going to focus on how we, at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, can help  your yard and garden to really glow this summer season…and every season after.

Below is a quick preview: Our lights…

Every Garden Has Hidden Beauty Waiting To Be Uncovered with our lights

1. Bring out the hidden beauty of your yard at night. Most people aren’t aware that the evening hours offer a fresh and unique perspective of your garden. Yet, as this Gazebo picture shows, there are areas of hidden beauty in every garden at night just waiting to be uncovered. Summer nights offer the ideal opportunity to see your garden in a whole new light. Let us work hard to help you bring out the hidden beauty of your garden and see your yard in a whole new light this summer.

2. Make outdoor entertaining a breeze. Whether it be a cocktail party or a family picnic, our lights always help keep the party going. Quality outdoor lighting means that your guests don’t have to leave when evening comes; and, unlike other lesser lighting fixtures, we guarantee that our lights will always be beautiful, dependable, and versatile. This means you can rest assured that no matter the celebration, our lights will be there to help you make the most of any event you will ever host.

water feature lighting draws attention to the waterfall as the focal points of your yard

3. Highlight your favorite features of your yard. Nighttime is the ideal time to accent what you desire to be the focal point of your yard. Think about it this way – the evening offers you a black canvas to draw attention to your favorite parts of your lawn and garden. Like the artist Rembrandt, the original “painter of light”, we bring light into places where it does not exist, accenting the parts of your yard that you most want to highlight.

4. Bring greater safety and security to your yard. We all instinctively know that safety and security are priceless feelings. Our lights increase your yard’s safety with beautiful path lights, helping people know where to walk in your yard, hidden moon-lights illuminating the ground with a soft glow from above, and pool lights increasing visibility in your pools and water features. As for security, you and your family will breathe easier as our lights push back the darkness and illumine the dark spots of your yard.

5. Enhance Your Home’s Beauty Every Season. It seems like the spring leaves have only just arrived, and we know you want to savor every moment of this lush green haven. Whether it be the blazing colors of fall, or the beautiful blooms of spring, our experienced lighting professionals know how to design and install a lighting system that ensures your home will look beautiful each and every season. Our incredible warranty also guarantees that your home will keep looking great, night after night, season after season, year after year.

The Cotton Ball – Lighting Up An Augusta Tradition

An Augusta Tradition since 1988

We Are Proud to be Lighting
Historic Augusta’sCotton Ball 2013

Today was a great day at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee. I’ve said it many times before – May is my favorite month of the year. The flowers are blooming, local produce fills store bins, and the weather is almost perfect.

It is days like today that make me grateful to be working outside with my hands. Not only was the weather beautiful, but my crew also finished setting up some lighting for a really fantastic local event – Historic Augusta’s Cotton Ball.

What Is The Cotton Ball? Since 1988, the Cotton Ball is an annual tradition of Historic Augusta, Inc. Historic Augusta is an important local organization whose mission is to preserve some of our city’s most important and historic landmarks.

Where Is It Held?– The casual affair will take place in the gardens surrounding the home of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond John Doumar, located at 2644 Henry Street. The Doumar’s home was originally built in 1917 by architect Henry Ten Eyck Wendell, who designed many of the finest homes that were built in Augusta in the early 20th century. The Doumars are also long time clients of ours, and we are very proud to have done the lights for this party, as well as the lights for their house and their incredible backyard.

When Is It Happening? This Thursday, May 16th from 6:30-9:30pm.

How Much Does It Cost? The Cotton Ball is free with a membership to Historic Augusta, Inc. Not a member? No sweat, membership rates are very reasonable – just $50 for an individual and $85 for a couple. Again, all proceeds go to Historic Augusta and their mission of local preservation.

Our Lights Create an Elegant Atmosphere for Your Parties and Events

Why Should I Go? This will be wonderful opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal from Outback Steakhouse, refreshing drinks (Mint Julep, anyone?), and great music from a local group, The Unmentionables. You can also enjoy mingling in the beautiful May weather and in the warm glow of this beautiful home. For more information, check out Historic Augusta’s website.

Do you have an evening event coming up soon? No worries, we can help. In addition to residential and commercial lighting, we also specialize in event lighting. Whether it be weddings, special events (The Blue Jean Ball), festivals (Sacred Heart Garden Festival), or even private dinner parties, discerning customers know how a few of our lights can make a huge difference for their event.

A Gift for the Giver – Mother’s Day

*

“A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie”  – Tenneva Jordan

Mother’s Day
A Celebration of Sacrificial Love

Well, its officially May. You know what that means – showers are leaving, flowers are springing, school kids are restless, and summer is right around the corner. But first (and foremost) comes Mother’s Day.

You probably know some cynical folks who consider Mother’s Day to be nothing more than a ‘Hallmark Holiday’, but I think that nothing could be further from the truth. Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate the women who make life possible and pleasant for us.

Allow me to wax philosophic for a moment, but I really like the quote above. It humbly captures the essence of motherhood – sacrificial love. From the pains of childbearing to free babysitting (and everything in between), good mothers love and sacrifice much for their children. We all owe quite a debt to our mothers, grandmothers, and even mother-in-laws. They have given so much for us, and it is entirely appropriate to set aside a day where we show our thanks in return.

Outdoor Lighting –
A Mother’s Day Gift that Keeps on Giving

If you are looking for a way to tangibly express your thanks to a mother figure in your life, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee would love to help.

Pardon this quick and shameless plug – but many people don’t think about what a great gift outdoor lighting can be. But, outdoor lighting is an ideal Mother’s Day present – Does your wife work hard to make your house a home? Our lights will display the beauty of her work and your home at night. Is your mother at home a lot alone in the evenings? Our lights will increase her safety and your home’s security at night. Best of all, quality outdoor lighting is a gift that, like a mother’s love, keeps on giving night after night, month after month, year after year. This is our promise and guarantee to you.

Perfect Mothers Day Gift - Outdoor Lighting

An Ideal Gift – Increase the Beauty & Security of Your Home At Night

Mother’s Day will be here before you know it, and we have opened some extra spots on our install calendar for next week. Let us help you give the gift of outdoor lighting to the giver in your life. Bringing Out The Best In Your Augusta Trees

It take a lighting professional to bring out the best in each and every tree

We Can Bring Out The Best in Your Trees

According to that famous groundhog, Punxsutawney Phil, spring is coming early this year. According the cherry tree in my backyard, spring has come really early this year. My favorite tree is already covered in light pink blooms a few months ahead of schedule. I don’t know if it will stay, but it reminded me about how much I love lighting up trees.

Truth is, anyone can light a trunk, but its takes an experienced lighting professional to light a tree. For a tree to be lit right, careful attention must be paid to accenting the unique and beautiful features of each individual tree. At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee we have the necessary experience, technique, and technology to bring out the best in each and every tree we encounter.

Allow me to ‘talk shop’ for a minute – broadly speaking, there are two types of lighting used with trees. The generic terms for these are “up-lighting” and “down-lighting”, but we refer to them as “canopy lighting” and “moon lighting”. Canopy lighting is a lighting style that casts light up a tree from the ground below. Ideally, canopy lighting should accent the full spectrum of a tree, bathing both the trunk and the canopy in an elegant glow. Sometimes this can be achieved with a single light fixture but, depending on the size and type of tree, some require a few well-placed fixtures to achieve the ideal effect.

Down lighting your garden

Moon lighting mimics the soft glow of the moon

Moon lighting is a lighting style that casts light down from a tree onto the ground below. It gets its name because it mimics the silvery light of a full moon shining down through the branches with an soft glow. We often use moon lighting to subtly light sitting areas, pathways, and garden accent pieces. Again, proper lighting fixtures and placement is key to create a subtle, yet effective, look. With all tree lighting, the goal is to accent the tree or outdoor space while hiding the light source itself. Too often, we see bad tree lighting that draws attention to itself, with poorly designed fixtures and improper lighting angles. These are the kinds of ‘rookie mistakes’ that we know how to avoid.

Tree and pool landscape lighting

Imagine What We Could Do for Your Yard this Spring

Fact is, no tree is “one size fits all”. Some trees are fairly easy to light, others are more difficult. For example, a close wide angle lens captures the delicate broad canopy of a willow tree, while a distant focused light is needed to punch through the dense leaves of a magnolia tree. Pin Oaks have sprawling limbs (often covered in spanish moss) that look stunning with a combination of canopy and moon lighting. Some of our favorite trees to light are Crepe Myrtles, Japanese Maples, Palms and Palmetto trees. Each kind of tree requires a nuanced lighting approach to achieve the ideal effect and, after 13 years of working in the CSRA, we know how to bring out the very best in our local landscape.

If you would like learn more about how our lights can bring out the best in your trees, let us show you with a free home consultation or demonstration. Please give us a call at (706) 722-5711 in Augusta or (706) 484-9711 in Lake Oconee to set one up to today!
