Top 5 Ways We Can Help Your Garden to Glow This Summer

Its a new summer season, and that means there are new memories to be made, new sights to see, and new parties to throw. It also means a new summer focus for our blogs. Last year we had a lot of fun thinking through how we could help you to light up those “summer nights”, and this year we turn our attention to your yard and garden.

Let’s be honest – you spend a lot of time and money making your lawn and garden great. enjoy your garden at night with quality outdoor lightingSo, why should you spend any more than have to? But, also consider this – why should you just get to enjoy your investment during the daylight hours? Most of us spend most of our time at home during the evening hours, and we think you should be able to enjoy your yard investment whenever you want. Our lights will help you do this.

For the rest of the summer we are going to focus on how we, at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, can help  your yard and garden to really glow this summer season…and every season after.

Below is a quick preview: Our lights…

Every Garden Has Hidden Beauty Waiting To Be Uncovered with our lights

1. Bring out the hidden beauty of your yard at night. Most people aren’t aware that the evening hours offer a fresh and unique perspective of your garden. Yet, as this Gazebo picture shows, there are areas of hidden beauty in every garden at night just waiting to be uncovered. Summer nights offer the ideal opportunity to see your garden in a whole new light. Let us work hard to help you bring out the hidden beauty of your garden and see your yard in a whole new light this summer.

2. Make outdoor entertaining a breeze. Whether it be a cocktail party or a family picnic, our lights always help keep the party going. Quality outdoor lighting means that your guests don’t have to leave when evening comes; and, unlike other lesser lighting fixtures, we guarantee that our lights will always be beautiful, dependable, and versatile. This means you can rest assured that no matter the celebration, our lights will be there to help you make the most of any event you will ever host.

water feature lighting draws attention to the waterfall as the focal points of your yard

3. Highlight your favorite features of your yard. Nighttime is the ideal time to accent what you desire to be the focal point of your yard. Think about it this way – the evening offers you a black canvas to draw attention to your favorite parts of your lawn and garden. Like the artist Rembrandt, the original “painter of light”, we bring light into places where it does not exist, accenting the parts of your yard that you most want to highlight.

4. Bring greater safety and security to your yard. We all instinctively know that safety and security are priceless feelings. Our lights increase your yard’s safety with beautiful path lights, helping people know where to walk in your yard, hidden moon-lights illuminating the ground with a soft glow from above, and pool lights increasing visibility in your pools and water features. As for security, you and your family will breathe easier as our lights push back the darkness and illumine the dark spots of your yard.

5. Enhance Your Home’s Beauty Every Season. It seems like the spring leaves have only just arrived, and we know you want to savor every moment of this lush green haven. Whether it be the blazing colors of fall, or the beautiful blooms of spring, our experienced lighting professionals know how to design and install a lighting system that ensures your home will look beautiful each and every season. Our incredible warranty also guarantees that your home will keep looking great, night after night, season after season, year after year.

It’s Spring (Cleaning) Time! (aka – Top 5 Reasons You Need our Annual Maintenance Plan)

flower lighting Augusta Lake Oconee GA

Spring is here! Do your lights need a quick refresh?

Well, its official – Spring is here! You know what that means – its time for warmer weather, fresh blooms, and…spring cleaning. Some people dread spring cleaning, but I kinda like it. Whether it be my house, my trucks, my yard…I like to spruce things up. I like to take a little time to make my stuff look like new again. A little bit of hard work often can make a big difference.

Service Plans for Outdoor Lighting

Let Us Spruce Up Your Lighting System This Spring

How do your outdoor lights look lately? Do they look as good as when they were first installed? Truth is, every outdoor lighting system will eventually need servicing. Now, our systems need less maintenance than most because we install it right the first time. But, your yard is (literally) a living and breathing thing. Whether you plan for it or not, your yard will change over time. You need a lighting system that can change with it. You need a lighting company you can count on. Don’t worry, we can help. I’ll give you 5 reasons why you should let us spruce up your lighting system with our Annual Maintenance Plan this spring.

When you purchase an Annual Maintenance Plan (AMP) with Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee you get the benefit of…

1. Refreshing Your Lighting System – When you purchase an AMP from us, we will come out and make your outdoor lighting system look and work like new again. Not only will we change all of your bulbs, but we will also troubleshoot any other issues your system might be experiencing – we will clean your fixtures, repair broken fixtures, and re-bury any exposed wire. We will also re-evaluate your lighting design and reposition lights to account for any changes to your house or additions to your yard. We even trim trees and shrubbery to ensure that your property is receiving the optimal lighting effect.

Our LEDs Look Great, Longer
With an LED conversion, you get twice the warranty coverage – 2 yrs worth.

2. Extending Your Warranty – When you purchase our AMP, we will extend your bulb warranty for an additional year, or an additional 2 years for an LED upgrade (see below). If you keep continuous service coverage with us after installation, we will even continue to cover your fixtures and transformers beyond their original warranties. We easily have the best warranty in the business and this means no service charges, no bulbs out, and most important to you – no fuss.

3. Upgrading to LED – When you purchase an AMP, it is the perfect time to consider upgrading to LED bulbs. LED technology has developed to the point where it meets our high standards and expectations. Our LED bulbs utilize the new CRI (Color Rendering Index) technology to ensure a soft, natural light while using less energy. LEDs typically use 80% less energy than their halogen counterparts, which means that an upgrade pays for itself over time. All of our light fixtures are able to be retrofitted to LED, and doing so doubles your warranty to 2 years on each LED bulb.

Our Reliable Service and Industry-leading Warranty Ensures that Your Lights Continue Look Great Night after Night, Year After Year

4. Adding-on (at a Discount) – For the next 3 months, we are running a spring special – When you schedule an AMP we will give you 5% off any add-on to your lighting system. This limited-time discount includes any light fixtures, transformers, timer system upgrades, or light switches you decide to add.

5. Repairing A Non-OLP System – While we wish that everyone used our lights, some people decide to go elsewhere. Whether they install their own lights, or use a competitor, we often get calls from homeowners who need us to come in and fix their lighting system. While many of these people are initially unhappy they have to call us, most are glad they did in the end. Many of these new customers tell us how their lighting system ‘looks better than ever’ after we service it. We just love that.

A New Years Update – Thanks & Blessings from our Family to Yours

Only a few more days until we enter the New Year of 2015! I hope you all have been enjoying the holiday season and were able to sit back and enjoy some quality time with your friends and family members. Other than celebrating the birth of my Savior, spending time with family and friends is my favorite part of the holiday season.

'Nana' with Hannah and Logan in Michigan

In this spirit, I thought it would be nice to post a New Years update from the Otis clan. As many of you know, all of our children have worked for Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, and some continue to play a part in the family business. Many of you also kindly ask how are children are doing, so here is a quick update…

Marc, Megan, Hannah and Logan

Our oldest son, Marc, recently accepted a job in Michigan State University’s Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement. As they prepare to move to East Lansing his wife, Megan, will look for part time teaching positions and Marc will continue to whittle away at his PhD. Our granddaughter, Hannah, is learning to read and will be starting Kindergarten in the fall! Our grandson, Logan, is also growing up quickly, and has learned to walk quite well since we saw him last.  He is bonding well with their new Chocolate Lab puppy, Moose. While they were unable to come home for Christmas, we are excited to go visit them in a few short days.

Justin is also doing well. After years of traveling around the country to for work, he has accepted a new position as a corrosion engineer for Atlanta Gas & Light in Atlanta, GA. He is enjoying learning the science behind the oil and gas industry. It is a growing industry and we are happy for him. We are also grateful that he has a job closer to home.

Kristin, Brendon & Foster

Kristin is over halfway through her PhD program at University of South Carolina. She continues to be passionate about school psychology and is thriving in her studies, equally enjoying both seeing clients and teaching undergraduate classes.  She and her long-time boyfriend, Brendon, are doing a great job raising their beautiful Golden Retriever, Foster

Justin & Jonathan in Paris

While continuing school, Jonathan has narrowed his focus to the field of perfusion. He enjoys the medical field, working with machines and is at his best under pressure. This field seems like a perfect fit for him. This past year, he earned his EMT certification, is taking additional sciences and shadowing several doctors at GRU. He plans to apply to MUSC’s Cardiac Perfusionist program in the coming fall and we know he will do great, helping lots of people through his work.

IMG_1015

Karen is also doing well and staying busy. With family spread out over Columbia, Augusta, and Michigan, she stays on the move. This past year, we are sad to report that we lost our faithful Golden Retriever, Toby.  When Justin moved to ATL he picked up his dog, Romo, and we found ourselves without a dog for the first time in many years. So, we decided to fix that…twice over.  Karen’s birthday present was two new little Golden Retriever puppies – Daisy and Cash. They are sweet (and precocious) little puppies and they keep us plenty busy these days.

Our company had a record-breaking year in 2014, and after sixteen years, I still love what I do. I truly consider it a calling to bring greater beauty, safety, and value by lighting up homes and businesses in Augusta, Aiken, Lake Oconee, & Athens. Last year, I also continued working as a volunteer firefighter in Columbia County, even earning my EMT certification. I am also gradually  getting advanced paramedic training, so that I can keep serving as a first-responder for my church and community.

augusta22Although life is far from perfect, the holiday season reminds me how much the Lord has blessed us, and how much we don’t deserve his kindness to us. I am grateful for this time of year, which points me back to the priceless grace that he offers to all through his Son, Jesus.

As this year comes to close, I look back and give thanks for you, our customers. Despite an ever-expanding client list, you all still feel like family to us. If we can do anything to help you, please do not hesitate to call us at  (706) 722-5711 in Augusta/Aiken or (706) 484-9711 in Lake Oconee/Athens. I look forward to serving all of your outdoor lighting needs in 2015, and for many years to come.

May your New Year be filled with many thanks and blessings as well,

Pat Otis

Tree Lighting: Discover & Enjoy the Priceless Treasures in Your Yard

“Trees are your best antiques”  ~ Alexander Smith,19th cen Scottish Poet

It take a lighting professional to bring out the best in each and every tree

Our Lights Will Bring Out the Hidden Beauty of Your Trees at Night

Antiques are valuable because they simultaneously connect us to the past, present, and even the future. Antiques are our dearest heirlooms, and as such, they are meant to be preserved, displayed, and admired. Trees are our best antiques. There is something about a beautiful tree that makes us stop and admire the beauty of the world around us. A majestic towering tree reminds us of those who have gone before us and those who will come after. Trees also provide beauty to our homes, give us shade from the summer heat, and spread a sense of relaxation. Indeed, trees are our best antiques.

Isn’t a shame to only be able to admire trees in daytime? So much of our time at home is spent in the evening hours. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to enjoy our trees when we are at home most? Imagine sitting outside on a fall evening gazing at one of your trees as the sun sets and, at the perfect moment in the settling dusk, a soft light washes over your tree with an elegant glow. Later, as you turn off your bedroom lights, you stand by the window gazing outside and taking in the beauty of your the yard once more before you sleep. When done right, outdoor lighting not only extends your usable outdoor space, it also enhances your home.

Lighting Up Your Augusta Garden

At Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, we know how to enhance your home at night. Our outdoor lighting design team offers a high level of experience and artistry to help you determine the best type of outdoor lighting for your space. We know the right type of fixtures, the ideal angles, and the best techniques to achieve the most appealing look to compliment your house, outdoor space, and ornamental trees.

Down lighting your garden

Moon lighting mimics the soft glow of the moon

When thinking about tree lighting, there are two very different techniques to consider depending on the result you are trying to achieve. If you want to illuminate an ornamental tree with beautiful branches, such as a willow, oak, or palm tree, the best choice is “canopy-lighting”. With “canopy-lighting” we place a discrete, wide beam ground light in an optimal place to light up the trunk, crown, and canopy in a very elegant way. Another technique that we commonly use is called “moon lighting”. This method mimics the shadowing and light naturally given off by the moon. We carefully mount our custom light fixtures in the ideal places to cast light down through leaves and branches, giving a natural, soothing, and comfortable feel to your outdoor space.

Spend Your Nights Gazing at the Priceless Antiques You Never Knew You Had

Both of these lighting techniques produce amazing, yet unique results. If you love the trees in your yard, and are interested in highlighting their natural wonder, please call us at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta. If you want to know what your trees could look like at night, let us come out and give you a free demonstration. Soon you could be spending your nights gazing at the elegant antiques you never knew you had.

How Does Your Garden Glow? Rembrandt, Backyard Stories, and Accent Lighting

Every Garden Has Hidden Beauty Waiting To Be Uncovered

Highlight the Best Parts of Your Yard

Did you know that our lights can actually refocus the way your yard looks at night? Its true. By highlighting your favorite features of your yard, our lights can help you create the landscape of your dreams.

In fact, nighttime is the ideal time to accent what you desire to be the focal point of your yard. Think about it this way – the evening hours offer you a black canvas to draw attention to your favorite parts of your lawn and garden. You may not have considered it before, but the painting metaphor fits what we do fairly well, because we consider ourselves to be artisans of outdoor lighting, and we draw inspiration from a wide variety of other artists, like painter Rembrandt Van Rijn.

prodigal_son

“The Prodigal Son” by Rembrandt

Long before Thomas Kinkaid, Rembrandt (1606-1669) was known as “the painter of light”. This is because he started with a black canvas and added in light layer by layer, emphasizing the features he most wanted to highlight in his paintings. For example, take “The Prodigal Son” painting here: notice how Rembrandt uses light to draw attention to the characters and relationships portrayed. While the aloof older brother (on the right)  is  brighter than the background characters, he remains a secondary and relatively dark character in the painting, as in the story itself (Luke 15:11-32). By his use of light, Rembrandt draws our gaze onto the true focal point of the story – the relationship between the father and prodigal son, particularly on the welcoming hands of the father.  Through his use of light, Rembrandt tells a powerful story without saying a word. This is the power of art, and of light, to tell a story that intrigues, inspires, and welcomes us in.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee Gazebo and Garden Arbor Lighting

Like Rembrandt, we Start with a Dark Canvas and Add Light Layer by Layer, Creating a Beautiful Work of Art.

Whether it is the “The Prodigal Son” or one of his many self-portraits, Rembrandt’s paintings remain some of the most beautiful in the art world. Rembrandt inspires us because we also start with the dark canvas of night. We bring light into places where it does not exist, accenting the parts of your yard that you most want to highlight. While we would never claim to be the Rembrandt of outdoor lighting, we do think that the effect our lights bring to your yard is priceless. Tell us what you want to highlight, and we guarantee you’ll agree.

Our Masters Makeover makes this pond and waterfall glow at night.

What Story do you Want Your Backyard to Tell?

Like Rembrandt, we can use light to tell a story in your yard – want to highlight the tranquility of your backyard? Let us accent that beloved water feature with customized submersible lighting fixtures.  Want to portray your backyard as an evening oasis? We can feature your favorite plants, flowers and trees with the lights that accents the unique beauty of each. Want to create a cozy atmosphere for evening entertaining? Let us light your sitting/eating area moon lights from above and deck lights from underneath. So the most important question is: what story do you want your backyard to tell? Answer that and we’ll take care of the rest…

If you have any questions or would like a free home demonstration to experience how our artisan lights can tell a story in your yard, give us a call at (706) 722-5711 in Augusta / Aiken or (706) 484-9711 in Lake Oconee / Athens.

Let’s be honest – you spend a lot of time and money making your lawn and garden great. enjoy your garden at night with quality outdoor lightingSo, why should you spend any more than have to? But, also consider this – why should you just get to enjoy your investment during the daylight hours? For the rest of the summer we are going to focus on how we, at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, can help  your yard and garden to really glow this summer season…and every season after.

3. Highlight your favorite features of your yard. Nighttime is the ideal time to accent what you desire to be the focal point of your yard. Think about it this way – the evening offers you a black canvas to draw attention to your favorite parts of your lawn and garden. Snow, ice storms, and earthquakes…its been a rough couple of weeks. But, good news…spring is almost here! You know what that means – blooming flowers, warmer days, and our world famous golf tournament! Yes, its almost tournament time. The Masters will be here before we know it. Are you ready? Is your home?

Over the next few weeks our city will be transformed by the world-famous “Masters makeover” – the brown and barren landscape will transform into a picturesque environment of perfectly groomed grass, elegantly trimmed trees, and beautiful blooming azaleas.

Deck & Patio Lighting - the perfect place to entertain guests

Our lights will help give your guests a great experience, extending their enjoyment deep into the evening hours

Soon, the world’s attention will be upon our fair city as people from all over the world travel to Augusta to attend our famous golf tournament. Many of our customers rent their houses out for guests, others invite special friends to visit, but all want to give their homes that “Masters makeover”. They want their homes to look beautiful and elegant, yet subtle and understated. Since our customers work hard to make their homes look just right, we at Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Augusta and Lake Oconee, are in the business of bringing that world-famous ‘Masters makeover’ to every home we light.

Imagine your guests enjoying a relaxing evening poolside

Whether it be a national company, or just a group of good friends, Masters visitors spend lots of money and have high expectations for their trip to Augusta. Many homeowners spend lots of money to make their houses look great during the day, but often forget that their renters will spend the majority of their time at their house during the evening hours. This is where we come in. Every year, our customers tell us how our lights provided their guests with a great renting experience. Our customers love how our lights give them the ability to naturally extend their home’s living space into the garden and into the evening hours. Others love how our lights create a welcoming scene for their guests as they return home after a long day of golfing (or a fun night on the town).
